Matt Hawke is an Adelaide-based actor, musician and theatre maker, and a graduate of the Elder Conservatorium of Music's Bachelor of Music Theatre. Equally at home performing, writing and creating original work, Matt has developed a diverse practice spanning musical theatre, cabaret, live music and directing.
In 2026, Matt enjoyed a standout Adelaide Fringe season, appearing in four productions, including his original one-man cabaret Beautiful Lies, which he wrote, composed and performed. The production received widespread critical acclaim before making its Sydney debut as part of Qtopia's Pride Fest, with reviewers praising Matt's wit, songwriting and stage presence. Beautiful Lies has been described as "intelligent, playful and highly resonant", with one reviewer declaring, "Hawke has already cemented himself as a star."
Professional credits include a directing internship with State Theatre Company South Australia, together with performance work for The Australian Ballet, State Opera South Australia and GWB Studios. Alongside his acting career, Matt writes and performs original music with the band Sally Navara, continuing to explore storytelling through both theatre and contemporary music.
During his training, Matt appeared as J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Wolf/Cinderella's Father in Into the Woods, Alfred/White Rabbit in Alice by Heart and in the ensemble of A Chorus Line. With a passion for original storytelling and a versatility that spans theatre, music and live performance, Matt continues to establish himself as one of South Australia's exciting emerging creatives.
